Interested in earning the Radio merit badge? Resources are available!
If your unit is interested in earning the Radio Merit Badge, please reach out to Chris Cancilla at ChrisCancilla@gmail.com or Rob Rousseau at ki4bke@nc.rr.com.
The class can take up to 5 hours and can be taught at a Saturday outing (if you work in the pre-requisites ahead of time the class could be shorter!)
In addition to teaching the Radio merit badge, there is also an option to hold a Technician Licensing Class for those interested in gaining their Amateur Radio License, which would authorize the scout or scouter to wear the Amateur Radio Operator strip on their uniform. This usually is a 22-hour class (multiple Saturdays or an exciting weekend. It culminates on day 3 with the F.C.C. exam.
Anyone can take the FCC test & you will be licensed if you pass (after paying $35 FCC fee for the license, paid directly to the FCC).
In addition, if you know Morse Code we can get you certified to wear the Morse Translator Strip.
Again – for any questions or to plan a class please reach out to Chris Cancilla at ChrisCancilla@gmail.com or Rob Rousseau at ki4bke@nc.rr.com.
